Time travel through Maastricht

At the Maastricht Museum, you’ll discover Maastricht’s history. The timeline of the permanent exhibit takes you through four major themes characterising the city’s history. The trip back in time starts around 7,000 years ago, with the first permanent inhabitants. From there, you will visit the time of the Roman conquerors who were the first to build a bridge over the Maas. Next, you will journey back to the early Middle Ages, when Maastricht was a political-religious centre. Your trek through the fortified town of the 16th to 18th centuries will take you to the Netherlands’ first industrial town in the early 19th century. The museum reveals many other hidden stories of Maastricht in the form of surprising temporary exhibitions.

Fun hands-on activities

In addition to admiring the exhibitions, there is always something fun, educational or interesting to do at the Maastricht Museum, from lectures and workshops to tours, presentations or performances. Themes such as Maastricht, history, culture and the city’s hidden stories are the common thread running through the activities offered. Anyone looking for a nice gift with a local touch will find what they’re looking for in the Museum Shop.
